Audi is working on a track-focused lightweight version of its next-generation TT sports car, according to reports out of the UK this week.
A new report with Autocar magazine suggests the new model will be similar in principle to Porsche’s GT3 models, combining light weight and a track-focused suspension tune with uprated engine outputs.
Audi has reportedly targeted 1000kg as the kerb weight for the car - a significant challenge, given the lightest front-wheel drive version of the current coupe kicks off at 1260kg.
The new model is set to achieve this weight reduction by applying the Multimaterial Space Frame treatment to the next TT’s MQB architecture - combining aluminium and composites with the platform’s steel fundamentals.
This Multimaterial Space Frame platform flexibility was previewed by the Crosslane Coupe concept at the recent Paris Motor Show.
The new platform set to feature in a production version of the Crosslane, and the expected Q8 SUV flagship - in addition to the mooted hot TT.
