Following the release of teaser artwork last week, a new convertible version of Audi's e-tron Detroit Concept has debuted at the Paris Auto Show today. The fourth model in the e-tron concept family, this latest iteration is dubbed the e-tron Spyder.

Other concepts in the e-Tron family have included the original R8-based e-Tron, the Detroit Concept and the A1 e-Tron. The A1 e-Tron is scheduled to go into limited testing next year as Audi advances its electric vehicle program.

The e-tron Spyder, a plug-in hybrid, is powered by a mid-mounted 224kW 3.0 litre V6 TDI turbodiesel engine driving the rear wheels, matched with two 64kW electric motors at the front wheels and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Torque? A mere 1002Nm, made up of 650Nm from the diesel engine and a further 352Nm of instant torque from the electric motors. An 'e-quattro' torque-vectoring system has been devised to help manage the monstrous output.

According to Audi, the e-tron Spyder will bolt to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds, with a top speed listed at 250km/h.

In electric-only mode, the e-tron Spyder offers a driving range of around 50km. Total driving range, with both power sources combined, is over 1000km.

With the Detroit Concept was rumoured to be the basis for an upcoming sub-R8 Audi 'R4' sportscar, this latest concept may also stand as a preview for an R4 Spyder.

Another production possibility for this unclaimed concept could be Audi's take on the Volkswagen BlueSport. A production version of this car is understood to be in development as a combined project between Audi, Porsche and parent company Volkswagen.
