Audi Australia has today announced an immediate sales suspension of diesel vehicles, as part of the emissions controversy that has gripped the greater Volkswagen Group.

Following a similar statement from Volkswagen Group Australia, Audi has been slightly more forthcoming with details of its sales suspension.

Audi’s statement reads:

“Audi Australia Pty Ltd, together with Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) met with the relevant government authorities yesterday to advise them of its strategy to address concerns that have been raised around the world regarding the diesel emissions issue.”

“In its first step, effective today, Audi Australia Pty Ltd temporarily suspended the sale of affected vehicles fitted with the 2.0-litre EA189 diesel engines, certified according to the European emission standard EU5.”

“The suspension of sales for the Audi brand relates to the Audi A4, A5 and Q5 vehicles with the 2.0 TDI engine only. The suspension will remain until the emission issues are addressed in those vehicles.”

Audi also states that existing owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in the coming weeks and months with information regarding how their vehicles will be retrofitted with a repair solution.

Investigations continue at Audi’s European head office, and updates will be communicated by Audi Australia as they become available.

Vehicles fitted with 1.6 and 2.0 litre engines that carry EU6 emissions certification are not affected, nor are Audi’s V6 and V8 TDI engines.

The company has also confirmed that all vehicles that are a part of the ‘dieselgate’ issue are still safe to drive.
