Aston Martin has pulled the covers from its V12  Vantage-based GT3 race  car, a track weapon to jostle on European circuits with the likes of the SLS AMG GT3, BMW's Z4 GT3, Audi's R8 GT3 and the Porsche 911 GT3 racers.

Replacing the DBRS9, Aston's new racer is powered by a track-enhanced version of the V12 Vantage's 6.0 litre engine, producing 447kW and 700Nm of torque.

Positioned further rearward for improved weight distribution, the engine is mated to a carbon-fibre propshaft and an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission.

The GT3-class Vantage is also equipped with competition-spec ABS and traction control systems - rougher than their road-going equivalents, and a whole lot more capable.

Priced at just half a million dollars, production of the V12 Vantage GT3 kicks off in October, with team deliveries to begin in early 2012.
