Aston Martin, a company synonymous with roaring V8 and V12 performance cars, will enter the whisper-quiet world of electric vehicles from within the next two year, with confirmation the RapidE will reach production by 2019.

The brand’s first EV will only be offered as a strictly limited edition model when it does finally arrive, with numbers capped at 155 units

The RapidE is set to be co-developed with Williams Advanced Engineering, whose electrification expertise includes producing the battery packs used in Formula E racing, as well as having previously contributed to the Jaguar C-X75 range-extender concept car.

As shown in the first teaser illustration issued by Aston Martin the RapidE will be based on the forthcoming Rapide AMR, featuring the more aggressive and performance oriented styling of that as-yet unreleased model.
