Previous rumours speculated a high-tune version of a Mercedes-AMG twin-turbo V8 could replace the venerable bent-twelve, (sourced through Aston Martin's technology partnership with AMG), but now we can see - and hear - that won't be the case.
The AM28 will soon pass the baton to a new V12, one that's 800cc smaller but sports a pair of turbochargers and is reportedly a product of Aston Martin's - not AMG's - engineering department.
Power and torque figures are still secret (something north of 400kW is not an unreasonable expectation), but the sound it makes in this short teaser vid is entirely befitting of a high-end Aston.
Looking at what's coming down Aston Martin's product pipeline, it's highly likely that the first recipient of the 5.2 twin-turbo V12 will be the upcoming Aston Martin DB11, which will take over from the DB9 as Aston's premier 2+2 grand tourer later this year or early next year.
Following that, the next-generation Vanquish could be next in line, along with a replacement for the current AM28-engined V12 Vantage.
