Aston Martin will give itself a new car for its 100th birthday next year.
Speaking with UK magazine Auto Express this week, CEO Ulrich Bez promised that rather than the usual limited-edition centenary package, the new car will be a new production model.
“It won’t be a DB9 with a Centenary Edition badge and it won’t be a limited edition like the One-77 supercar. This will be a mainstream Aston," Bez said.
As with the brand's past production offerings, the new car's styling is unlikely to represent any great design leaps.
“The best cars stand the test of time,” Bez added. “You need evolution in design, not constant change.”
Reports in recent weeks have pointed to brand-new replacements for the DB9 and flagship DBS, and spy photos this month have revealed that Aston is testing at least one new model.
If the spied car is not merely a mule, we can expect a sharper profile, along with a more pronounced character wave along its waist.
Facing off against the likes of the Lamborghini Aventador and its new V12 engine, the new DB car will either get a massively upgraded version of its existing V12, or an all-new powerplant - possibly with extra power from an electric motor system.
