Red Bull’s philosophy, ‘living on the edge’, is clearly one the company embraces if gathering 'chatter' about plans to take the step into road cars proves correct.

The energy drink giant sponsors at least one race team in every class of world motorsport worth mentioning. It has its Red Bull Air Race series and was also partly responsible for sending a man with a parachute to the edge of space.

When the company hinted at a road car project at the end of last month, most industry watchers deduced then that Infiniti would be the obvious choice for a donor car. After all, the Japanese carmaker is one of Red Bull’s major sponsors in Formula 1.

But reports out of the UK now hint at a partnership of sorts with Aston Martin, who is said to be considering its own road-going hypercar to tackle the likes of the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren’s P1.

If successful, the project would give Red Bull a road car worthy of its F1 team association, in the same way that McLaren and Ferrari can link their hypercars to the pinnacle of world motorsport.

Red Bull’s involvement may be limited to the design phase at this stage, with the UK’s Autocar reporting F1 designer Adrian Newey is the likely man for the job.
