Aston Martin's all-new superhero has made its official debut today, just hours after images and details appeared prematurely on the company's consumer website.

Revealed last month as the Project AM 310 'concept', the British supercar marque's Vanquish flagship is back.

Unveiled in concept form at the Concorso d'Eleganza in Italy, the new Vanquish reveals the next phase in Aston's familiar evolutionary styling, bringing a sharpened profile, more pronounced guards and a longer roofline.

Up front is a longer and slimmer grille design and Rapide-inspired headlights, while the rear lights are a clear nod to the tail of the One-77. There is also a new integrated 'Aero Duct' spoiler on the boot lid.

Both bumpers feature track-driven aerodynamic treatments, bringing an even more purposeful look to the supercoupe.

“The new Vanquish mixes beautiful design with impressive technology such as the superb new infotainment system. This is the latest incarnation of everything we know, informed and developed from One-77," Aston Martin boss Dr Ulrich Bez said.

"It is the ultimate Super Grand Tourer – confident and assured – and is the newest representation of Power, Beauty and Soul.”

Power for the new Vanquish will be provided by yet another update to Aston's Ford-derived 6.0 litre V12, now producing 421kW at 6750rpm and 620Nm of torque at 5500rpm.

Delivering more go than than the 380kW/570Nm version of the same engine in the DBS, the 6.0 V12 is still bettered by the ultra-exclusive One-77's 559kW/750Nm 7.3 litre engine.

Matched with the familiar six-speed Touchtronic 2 sequential transmission, the Vanquish's 0-100km time is listed at 4.1 seconds.

That's short of the 559kW One-77's 3.5 seconds, and it won't shame the 525kW Lamborghini Aventador's 2.9 seconds, but there is still little here to complain about.

Aston says the new Vanquish is based on a massively overhauled version of its VH platform, with torsional rigidity improved by "more than" 25 percent.

Taking a tip from the One-77, the body of the new car features extensive use of carbon fibre, aluminium and magnesium, and Aston says the front chassis structure is 13 percent lighter than in the DBS.

The whole package sits on 20-inch Pirelli P Zero tyres, and braking is managed by 398mm ventilated carbon ceramic discs at the front and 360mm discs at the rear.

Buyers will be able to choose from a 2 or 2+2 seating arrangement at purchase, and rear storage space - for what it's worth - has increased by a huge 60 percent.

“The Aston Martin range is stronger now than at any time in our 99-year history. The new Vanquish represents the perfect way to signal the beginning of our centenary celebrations next year," Bez said.

Priced at $473,340, Australian deliveries of the Vanquish will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
