For Ariel customers looking to ramp up the extreme-factor, the Nomad off-road performance buggy can now be had with a new supercharged engine.

The unit is still the Honda-sourced 2.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engine as found in the ‘regular’ Nomad, but power is lifted from 175kW/300Nm to 216kW and 340Nm.

That’s a 41kW lift in power and a 40Nm boost to torque, for those keeping score.

As you might expect, the added weight of the supercharging components over and above the standard 670kg machine barely matters compared to the gain in horsepower, and the supercharged Nomad slashes its 0-60 MPH (96km/h) time to just 3.4 seconds.

A further four seconds with the hammer down and the Nomad will hit the magic tonne – 100 MPH (160km/h) - which is only 25 MPH shy of its 125 MPH (200km/h) top speed.

Otherwise, the Nomad is unchanged from the car launched by Ariel at the start of the year, which includes a comprehensive roll-cage, increased ride-height over its Ariel Atom base, underbody protection and long-travel suspension.
