Tech giant Apple has snapped up a few domain names as future insurance should it decide to enter the world of carmaking.

Or maybe the company has done so already..?

If you were after Apple.car, Apple.cars or Apple.auto, you're too late; as Apple has registered them all. Whether this move is designed for future use, or simply to ensure no one else can have them, is unclear at this stage.

What is clear, it that Apple is openly working on self-driving technology through a program tagged ‘Project Titan’.

Further, Apple and Tesla have engaged in an unofficial ‘war’ as each tries to gain the signatures of the best technical minds from their respective rival to join their workforces.

A future Apple car should it ever exist would likely feature an all-electric drivetrain and a high degree of autonomy, but the company, for now, has chosen existing cars (such as Chrysler’s Grand Voyager - pictured, above) to test its autonomous tech.

As Apple CarPlay continues to be rolled out into new models both here and overseas, the tech company may also be looking to launch a new web-based service for users of its in-car infotainment system.

Rumours suggest 2019 could be the year that the first Apple car will be unveiled, but conflicting rumours have pointed to a later date, with company insiders reportedly believing the project will not be ready by 2019.
