Visitors will be able to see ANCAP’s work first hand, with a crash-tested Hyundai i45 sedan forming their stand’s centrepiece.
ANCAP technical staff will be available to demonstrate exactly why the i45 scored a maximum five star rating, and the significance of such a rating in the protection of occupants in a crash.
The displayed i45 will have been subjected to the ANCAP frontal offset crash test, which simulates a collision with another vehicle of similar mass.
Specifically, this involves 40 percent of the vehicle’s driver’s side frontal area making contact with a crushable barrier at 64km/h.
The i45 was awarded five stars based on its behaviour in the frontal offset test, along with ANCAP’s side impact, pedestrian and pole tests.
Also key to this rating were the i45’s safety features such as six airbags, stability control, emergency brake assist, and seatbelt pretensioners.
The 2012 AIMS is open to the public from 19-28 October, but keep an eye on TMR for all the news from the exclusive media day on Thursday the 18th.
