Volvo's S60 sedan joins its V60 wagon sibling in the Australasian New Car Assessment Program's 5-Star club this week, with the car's Euro NCAP score now officially recognised in Australia.
Achieving a total 36.34 out of a possible 37 points, the S60 (tested in five-cylinder diesel form), the sedan picked up 15.34 out of 16 in the offset crash test and 16 out of 16 in the side impact test.
The results show that the passenger compartment held its shape well; a further two points (the maximum possible) were achieved in the optional pole test.
Standard safety features for the S60 D3 diesel include dual front airbags, side airbags and head-protecting side curtains.
Antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and electronic stability control (ESC) are also standard, along with intelligent seat belt reminders on all seats and pretensioners on the front seat belts. A three point seat belt is fitted to the centre rear seat.
Volvo's City Safety collision avoidance package is also standard.
