A new round of Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) crash safety scores has been released this week, with top 5-Star ratings going to the all-new Toyota Camry, along with Subaru's brand-new Impreza small car and XV crossover.

The new Camry hit Australian showrooms late last year, and the 5-Star rating applies to all variants in the new midsizer's line-up.

The Camry scored 15.27 out of 16 in the offset crash test. ANCAP says the passenger compartment held its shape well, with a slight risk of serious leg injury for the driver and passenger.

The vehicle scored 16 out of 16 in the side impact crash test and a further two points in the optional pole test.

Safety features include dual front airbags, side airbags, side curtain and knee airbags. There is also electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution.

Seatbelt reminders are also fitted to all five seats, while the front seats get seatbelt pretensioners.
