Tata has come up short in the latest round of ANCAP safety testing, with its Xenon pickup managing only a 2-Star safety rating.

ANCAP highlighted the Xenon’s lack of electronic stability control (ESC) and side airbags, saying the missing technology reflected poorly on the overall safety rating.

The low score will prove frustrating for Tata, with the Xenon otherwise performing “fairly well” in frontal impact testing.

Tata says the Xenon will be equipped with standard ESC, traction control and hill-hold assist in the Australian market in the coming months.
