Alpine All-New SUV Could Share Underpinnings With Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz could play a big role in the next item on the job list for Renault as it rebuilds the famous Alpine brand.

Renault has a close relationship with ‘Benz and reports from France have indicated the German giant has been tapped on the shoulder for a GLA-based Alpine SUV to launch in 2020.

The suggestion is Alpine’s historic first SUV could even be manufactured by Mercedes-Benz.

Created by the enigmatic Jean Rédélé, Alpine’s reputation is based on motorsport and sports cars so it seems the upcoming SUV will overlook some of the less powerful engines offered by ‘Benz. In fact the Alpine SUV’s powerplant choice will likely mirror the GLA here in Australia - the 100kW/300Nm 2.1-litre turbo-diesel (front-wheel-drive), the 155kW/350Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol and possibly even the 265kW/450Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol from the GLA 45 AMG (both all-wheel-drive).
