Suzuki has unveiled an all-new version of the V-Strom 1000 from its popular adventure-touring range, due to hit Australian showrooms in autumn next year.

With styling inspired by the 1988 Suzuki DR750S, the new V-Strom’s focus on adventure-touring is such that an all-new luggage system was co-designed to complement the bike.

Suzuki says the luggage system was included in the various rounds of testing, designed to be easily installed while keeping the width of the overall package down and offering a “clean look” when detached.

But enough about luggage, what can riders expect when they twist the throttle open?

The liquid-cooled 1037cc engine is larger than its predecessor, with a redesign of many major internal components along with clutch, radiator and flywheel designed to offer sharper acceleration.

Safety systems include Suzuki’s ‘advanced’ traction control system, which is designed to cope with off-road riding along with anti-lock brakes.

The new V-Strom 1000 has an inverted front fork and adjustable single-shock style rear suspension. On-board, you’ll find a thickly padded seat and an ever-important adjustable windscreen.

“Suzuki has an enviable history of pioneering new trends, with revolutionary motorcycles such as the DR750S, the first ATV and the legendary Hayabusa,” Suzuki Australia’s Lewis Croft said.

“This latest V-Strom once again demonstrates the essence of Suzuki motorcycle engineering, with a host of exciting new features.”

Mr Croft also said that pricing for the all-new V-Strom would be announced closer to launch.

The 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 goes on sale in autumn 2014 and will battle it out in the sales race against the likes of Honda’s VFR 800X and 1200X along with BMW’s GS range.
