The new Alfa Romeo 4C coupe, only recently launched in Australia, will soon be joined in local showrooms by the even fresher 4C Spider.

Revealed just six months ago at the Detroit Auto Show, the Spider bundles the 4C’s 177kW and 350Nm 1.75 litre turbo engine in behind the seats, while doing away with the Coupe’s beachside cruise-inhibiting fixed roof.

Sending power to the rear wheels through a six-speed TCT twin-clutch auto, the 4C Spider claims a 0-100km/h time of 4.5 seconds, matching the coupe’s time.

Only some 300 of the limited-production 4C models have been allocated to Australia and, as revealed earlier this year, the Spider will make up around one-third of that total allotment.

Specifications for the local Spider are still to be confirmed, although Alfa spokesperson Andrew Cherston told TMR today that we can expect the tune of Australian models to be closer to the European trim than to the beefed-up US spec.

But, as with the American model - and as the recently launched 4C Coupe confirmed - Australian-delivered Spider models will be fitted out with features and safety gear to meet local expectations and regulations.

Local pricing is also still to be confirmed, but with the Coupe priced at $89,000 in its regular form (a $109,000 special edition was offered at launch) we could see the cloth-topped model rub right up against the $100,000 mark.

Don’t be surprised if it breaks on through to the other side. ?

Watch for the 4C Spider to make its Australian debut in November.
