Fans, and potential customers, have had more than enough time to digest the styling and features of the Giulia, but now Alfa Romeo has provided a glimpse of the new SUV.
In a video tour of the carmaker’s Cassino manufacturing complex, a shot of what is almost certainly the Stelvio appears with wheels and all as it makes it way along the production line.
A deliberate move by Alfa’s parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles? Almost definitely, but FCA has left at least a little to the imagination with some black cut-outs to partly disguise the Stelvio.
Beyond an outline of its looks, little else has been revealed for the Stelvio.
Reports suggest Alfa will attempt to stay true to its roots by giving the new SUV a performance tilt immediately from launch.
To that end, at least one Stelvio variant could use the Giulia’s 2.9 litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine to power only the rear wheels to improve handling and reduce weight.
Other engine options will likely include a 2.2 litre four-cylinder diesel along with a 2.0 litre four-pot petrol. Each of these engines could be offered with either front- or rear-wheel-drive, while all-wheel-drive models will almost certainly be available.
Rivals for the Stelvio include Jaguar’s F-Pace, the Audi SQ5, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 and Porsche’s Macan Turbo.
All will be revealed at this year’s LA Auto Show, where the Stelvio is scheduled to make its official debut. Stay tuned for more.
