Enough with the rumours and holdups: Alfa Romeo's new 4C sports coupe will debut in 2013.

A teaser image released this week reveals that "the car to end all cars is nigh", and while it does not specify the 4C, there is little doubt.

The merry-go-round of Alfa's 4C production schedule has taken more than a few turns, with reports in the past year suggesting launch dates spread across the next three years.

Recently however, an insider at Alfa Romeo parent Fiat reportedly confirmed a Geneva Motor Show unveiling, ahead of a late 2013 market launch.

The report follows rumours of a late 2014 debut; reports that had also followed earlier talk of a 2013 launch and a convertible version in 2015.

Power for the existing 4C concept is delivered by a 150kW turbocharged 1.75 litre four-cylinder engine. It is possible however that Alfa's new 1.8 litre engine - capable of up to 235kW - could provide motivation for the production model.

The Maserati-built 4C will utilise either a carbon-fibre and aluminium construction or, if reports out of Europe are to be believed, a new SMC material.
