The kids in the audience for the upcoming Avengers film might be caught in rapturous delight at the sight of Earth's mightiest heroes, but dad will have one thing on his mind: Honda's NSX Roadster concept.

Making its on-screen debut in the new movie, the Acura-badged concept was first spied on the set last year, leading to speculation that the showcar would preview a new production model.

Earlier this year, Honda revealed a hardtop version of the car at the Detroit Auto Show, confirming that a new NSX will enter production in time for the 2015 model year.

It is expected that the NSX Roadster will follow the coupe into production sometime later.

In concept form, the NSX coupe is driven by a mid-mounted V6 engine, and while Honda hasn't revealed details, it is likely a version of the new 231kW 3.5 litre V6 revealed earlier this year.

Honda's new electric Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive is also featured, adding its own (as yet unrevealed) power.

In the Avengers film, the topless Acura is known as the Stark Industries Super Car, driven by Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man's alter ego Tony Stark.

Honda also produced a toughened-up version of its Acura-badged MDX SUV for the film, featuring bolt-on guards, slotted wheels, a large bull-bar, rooftop lights and a matte-black paint job.
