Toyota has announced a series of changes to its best-selling HiLux ute range for the 2018 model year, aiming to keep the Hilux at the top of Australia’s new car sales chart with new variants arriving to take the place of previous slow-selling versions.

Among the revised range, Toyota has ditched petrol-powered V6 versions of the HiLux which accounted for less than 0.5 percent of sales volumes, while the 2.7-litre petrol four-cylinder and 2.4- and 2.8-litre turbo diesel engines remain unchanged.

New variants include Hi-Rider (two wheel drive) extra cab SR 2.8 diesel, double cab WorkMate 2.4 diesel, and double cab SR5 2.8 diesel automatics, cab chassis extra cab WorkMate 2.4 diesel auto, SR 2.8 diesel manual, extra cab SR5 2.8 diesel auto with pickup body and double cab pickup-bodied Workmate 2.4 diesel auto, and SR+ 2.8 diesel auto and manual.
