Subaru has revealed details of its MY18 WRX and WRX STI models.

The Japanese brand's performance duo will receive a raft of cosmetic, mechanical and safety enhancements to keep them fresh before all-new models arrive in 2019.

Subaru has tweaked the front end adding a revised front bumper, a fresh hexagonal grille with black surrounds, new fog-light bezels and responsive and daytime running C-shaped LED headlights, which bring the WRX and WRX STI into line with the brand's current design language.

The interior changes are highlighted by a new 5.9-inch screen, which replaces the old 4.3-inch unit, while gloss black finishes have been used throughout.

Subaru has also added its Eyesight active safety system which includes features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision steering assist and hazard warnings among others. However, Eyesight is only made available on automatic versions.

Eyesight's Assist Monitor package has been added to WRX and STI Premium versions which displays warnings on the lower windscreen, blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert and high beam assist.

The updated WRX also benefits from new Jurid brake pads, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated door mirrors, LED fog lights and revised suspension, while auto variants get red brake calipers and WRX Premium models score electric lumbar support.

STI models receive six piston yellow Brembo brake calipers at the front and two piston rear brake calipers, 19-inch alloy wheels, red seatbelts and revised suspension which consists of optimised roll rigidity, suspension coils and shock absorbers, while the STI Premium gains a front view camera.

A new WRX STI Spec.R model adds Recaro front sports seats.

Pricing for the base manual WRX model remains $39,240 before on-road costs, while most other models receive a minot price rise.

Power comes from the same 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 197kW and 350Nm in WRX guise and is matched to either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.

The STI models utilise a 2.5-litre turbo petrol unit that produces 221kW and 407Nm and is available with a six-speed manual transmission only.
