Around three months after making its European debut, the updated Skoda Rapid is now on sale in Australia.
The Rapid Spaceback, Skoda’s name for the ‘traditional’ Rapid hatch, is priced from $23,990 drive-away for the 2018 model-year.
Rapid customers in Australia will now be limited to a one-size-fits-all model, with only the 92TSI petrol-powered variant on show matched only with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Power comes via a 1.4 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 92kW and 200Nm, sending power to the front wheels.
In the outgoing model at least, the Rapid 92TSI with DSG auto sipped 4.9 l/100km, and has a 0-100km/h time of 8.9 seconds.
New features for 2018 include 17-inch black alloy wheels, privacy glass, black side mirrors and an extended glass tailgate.
Safety features include LED daytime running lights, a rear-view camera, front assist with City Emergency Brake (autonomous emergency braking) and rear parking sensors.
Inside, the Rapid continues its theme of spaciousness better than the class average, along with Skoda’s SmartLink (Apple Carplay & Android Auto) and a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Whether the 81TSI engine will make a return to the Rapid range in the future or not remains unclear, as does the availability of any manual-equipped models.
