Honda has teased its new Accord for 2018 with the all-new 10th generation model previewed in a new design sketch ahead of an official unveiling next month.

Style-wise the Accord looks to borrow much of its front-end from the new Civic sedan and hatch with its longer bonnet and double grille front and scoops around the fog lamps, while the headlamps featured in the sketch also look very similar.

Honda has already revealed some technical details of the next Accord; out are the current naturally-aspirated 3.5-litre V6 and 2.4-litre four-pot engines, and in are a pair of turbocharged petrol engines.

The 1.5-litre engine is most likely the same one utilised in the upcoming CR-V, which produces 140kW and 240Nm. Honda has also stated that this engine will be paired with a CVT automatic.

The larger 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit, is expect to be a detuned version of the 235kW/400Nm engine found in the upcoming Civic Type R, which will be mated to a new Honda-developed 10-speed auto. Both variants will be front-wheel drive.

Sales of the Honda Accord have continued to slide in Australia, with the Accord outsold by mid-size sedans like the Toyota Camry, Mazda6 and even the much derided Holden Malibu

Furthermore, the Accord's sales have continued the drop in the year up to May, with sales declining by more than 50 percent compared to 2016 as Honda runs out stock.

Honda Australia director, Stephen Collins, has previously said that the Accord's sales performance was under scrutiny and its future in doubt. The decline of the medium passenger car segment locally could potentially spell the end of the Accord down under, but Honda Australia is yet to announce its position on the new-generation model.
