Mainstream versions of the updated Mark 7.5 Volkswagen Golf are still to arrive in Australia, but hot hatch fans can check out the first details of the Golf GTI and Golf R performance twins that will arrive Down Under.
Visually the changes are subtle, but new front and rear bumpers, and more detailed head and tail lights with new LED accents help pick the 2017 performance Golf range apart, with new alloy wheel designs also available.
The Golf GTI gets a small power bump from the carry-over 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol, now rated at 169kW and 350Nm - the same as the previous Golf GTI Performance - and is available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Specifications are set to include a new 8.0-inch touchscreen navigation system, active damper control suspension, multi-mode drive adaptor, 18-inch alloy wheels, plus safety kit incorporating autonomous emergency braking, driver fatigue detection, and front and rear parking sensors.
