Volkswagen has completed the roll-out of its updated Amarok ute range with the introduction of four-cylinder diesel models to join the up-spec V6 diesel that arrived in Australia in late 2016.

Following the lead set by the V6 models, the updated Amarok wears revised front end styling, with a new front bumper, grille, and headlight internals, and a new underbody guard for 4x4 variants shaped to improve ground clearence by 34mm.

Under the bonnet the twin-turbo 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel carries over unchanged, available in two different states of tune: either the TDI400 with 132kW of power and 400Nm of torque attached to a six-speed manual transmission, or the TDI420 with the same 132kW but a slightly higher 420Nm of torque, backed by an eight-speed automatic.

Volkswagen’s previous single-turbo low-output TDI340 variant (which offered 103kW and 340Nm) has been deleted from the range, along with single cab versions leaving the Amarok as a dual cab only.

Inside, the Amarok range picks up a redesigned dashboard bringing a more SUV-like ambience to the work ute. Composition Media touch screen audio joins the standard features, bringing with it Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity.

Standard safety equipment for the Amarok range includes Multi-Collision Braking, four airbags, electronic stability control including trailer sway control, ABS brakes, brake assist and an electronic diff lock.

All 4x4 ute-body models now come standard with a reversing camera and rear park sensors which are optional for 4x2 models, but not available for cab chassis variants.

The model range has also been revised with Amarok 2WD, Amarok Core 4x4, and Amarok Core Plus 4x4 which takes the place of the Highline variant which becomes a V6-only model.
