Toyota has updated its Kluger seven-seat large SUV for 2017, addressing its fuel use with the addition of direct injection technology for the engine, matched to a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

Official fuel consumption figures for the petrol-powered Kluger now drop to 9.1 l/100km for the entry-level two-wheel drive Kluger GX down from 10.2L/100km for the pre-update generation.

As well as improved fuel efficiency the new engine increases power by 17kW and torque by 13Nm over the outgoing model, bringing total outputs up to 218kW and 350Nm.

As before the three-model Kluger lineup starts with the front wheel drive Kluger GX, priced from $43,550 before on-road costs, a $1360 increase over the previous model.
