Subaru has revealed what stands to be a key model for the brand, the all new Subaru XV, at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

As with the previous XV the new generation owes much of its existence to the regular Impreza hatch, but with taller ride height, and more burly looking styling features, including black plastic-clad bumpers and wheel arches to give it some SUV cred.

The new XV is the second vehicle, after Impreza, to utilise the brand’s Subaru Global Platform chassis architecture, which has allowed for a 70 per cent more rigid chassis, with a lower centre of gravity, whilst still maintaining 220mm of ground clearance.

Handling also benefits from the change, with optimised suspension specifications and new, faster steering gear ratio. For adventure seekers X-Mode all-wheel drive allows optimised control of engine, braking and all-wheel drive for greater control on loose or slippery surfaces, while Active Torque Vectoring enhances steering and handling on-road.

Power for the new XV comes from a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine, producing 115kW and 196Nm, matched to Subaru’s Lineartronic continuously variable transmission which delivers power to all four wheels.
