The first spied images of the 2017 Subaru BRZ have made their way online, following hot on the heels of official 2017 Toyota 86 images that were released last week.
Following in the footsteps of its Toyota-branded brother, the Subaru BRZ introduces a new front bumper design and new LED headlights, but continues the C-shaped LED light motif of the original.
While the central air-intake doesn't look to have been altered greatly, featuring the same six-sided outline, broad upper bar, and vented fillers, the outboard intakes no longer feature lighting elements, and instead continue the vented theme of the central intake.
At the rear, the BRZ runs the same updated tail-lights and rear bumper as seen on the 86, and likewise is shown here with the same 17-inch alloy wheel design as its Toyota counterpart.
While the 86 boasted some interior updates, these images, originally posed at Autofilou, would seem to indicate that the interior changes to the BRZ are relatively minor.
A new steering wheel features audio and trip-computer buttons, the instrument cluster scores a new TFT display where the fuel and temperature gauges used to sit, there are new soft-touch finishes to the dash facia, and the climate control knobs have been changed from octagonal to round.
There’s also a new audio head-unit pictured, but as a market-specific fixture that is likely to change depending on which export market the BRZ is sold in.
As for changes beneath the surface, we’ll have to wait for Subaru’s word, however the slightly boosted 151kW/214Nm tune as seen in the manual 86 is likely to appear, with automatic models retaining the existing 147kW/205Nm outputs.
Similarly, the updated 86 features revised suspension settings, and, while the BRZ offers a slightly different suspension tune to the Toyota, the 2017 BRZ will likely have been fettled to improve ride and handling.
An official reveal for the updated BRZ is yet to be scheduled by Subaru, and while the Toyota 86 is set to go public at the New York Auto Show, Subaru may opt not to share the spotlight, giving the BRZ an introduction at some later event.
