First local deliveries are expected next year and the anticipated retail price will start around $270,000 before options and on-road charges.
The elegant addition to the Morgan range actually pays homage to the company’s glorious history – with both the name (Aero 8) and with its full convertible configuration – although an optional hardtop is available.
Morgan fans will know this new Aero 8 follows the limited edition AeroMax, the Aero SuperSports and the Aero Coupe.
Only Morgan could successfully pull-off this look - a 2016 twist on the classic British sports car. But although there are styling cues which could be argued date back to the 1930s, the Aero 8 boasts up-to-the minute technology including a lightweight aluminium chassis and a clever ‘clam shell ‘ boot which both stores the new double-lined mohair hood (when not in use) and tensions it (when it is).
The interior boasts a new-look dashboard with real wood surrounds containing controls for the air-conditioning, satellite navigation and the audio system (Bluetooth connectivity for the first time in a Morgan). There are also box-woven carpets and of course beautiful leather.
Underneath is an all-new suspension system highlighted by a completely revised front-end, anti-roll bars and a limited-slip differential. As a result, Morgan says the new Aero 8 is more responsive.
Power comes from a BMW 4.8-litre V8 driving through a choice of six-speed transmissions (manual or automatic). As we’re talking about a vehicle with an all-up weight of just 1200kg... well ‘exhilarating performance’ wouldn’t be stretching things.
But Morgan is quick to point out the new Aero 8 is also its most refined car to-date
Each Morgan Aero is meticulously hand-made at the historic factory in Worcestershire, England and - with a massive range of paint colours, leather and interior details from which to choose - buyers can individualize their car when ordering.
