Mercedes-Benz has introduced an entry-level variant of its V-Class passenger van range with the introduction of the V 220 joining the existing V 250 that went on sale in Australia in 2015.

Powered by a detuned version of the V-Class' existing 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, the V 220 produces 120kW and 380Nm, down by 20kW and 60Nm compared to the V 250. Mercedes-Benz has not yet disclosed fuel consumption figures.

All V-Class variants will come standard with Lugano leather upholstery, seven seats with individual middle row seats, a power-closing tailgate, separately opening tailgate glass, climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive suspension, plus safety systems including crosswind assist, blind spot assist, active parking assist, and Pre-Safe accident anticipation.

The V 220 does forgo some features from the up-spec model with Garmin Map Pilot navigation, Mercedes-Benz’ Audio 20 infotainment with a 7.0-inch display, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a rear view camera taking the place of the V 250’s Comand Online infotainment, Burmester surround sound, 18-inch alloy wheels and 360-degree camera system.

The V 220 also goes without roof rails, exterior chrome detailing, Distronic adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, illuminated door sills, and the Avantgarde styling package of the V 250.

For more budget-conscious buyers Mercedes-Benz will also continue to offer the eight-seat Valente van with the same engine and seven-speed automatic as the V 220.

Pricing

Valente - $58,100
V-Class V 220 - $74,990
V-Class V 250 - $87,200

Manufacturer's list price excluding on-road costs.
