The latest niche-filling trending-right-now SUV from Mercedes-Benz is ready to join the Australian range, with the prestige manufacturer revealing the price and features of its GLC Coupe.

Despite the name, the GLC Coupe retains five doors, but unlike the GLC SUV it swaps practicality for a design-led fastback roofline - following in the footsteps of the larger GLE Coupe range.

The GLC Coupe will launch in Australia with a three-model range, providing a choice of two diesel engines and one petrol engine, all four-cylinders, mimicking the GLC SUV.

The range opens with the GLC 220 d, powered by a 125kW/400Nm 2.1 litre diesel four cylinder engine and fitted as standard with AMG Line styling, 20-nch AMG alloy wheels, sports suspension, powered tailgate, satellite navigation, 360 degree camera, and black Ash open pore wood trim.

The more powerful GLC 250 d runs a more powerful version of the 220 d’s engine, with 150kW and 500Nm, while the petrol powered GLC 250 runs a 155kW/350Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Both the GLC 250 and GLC 250 d add leather seat trim, Keyless Go proximity key with push-button start, and Mercedes’ Driver Assistance Package Plus, incorporating pre-safe braking, lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, steering assist and cross traffic assist.

Standard safety features comprise nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blindspot assist, attention assist, and a pedestrian-protecting active bonnet, amongst other features.

With a length of 4.72 metres and a height of 1.6 metres the GLC coupe stands four centimetres lower than the GLC SUV but stretches almost eight centimetres further from nose to tail.

With rear seats up luggage capacity measures 500 litres, growing to 1400 litres with the seats folded, which compared admirably to the GLC SUV at 508 and 1600 litres respectively.

The range is also expected to grow with the arrival of more powerful Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and GLC 63 variants, however those flagship variants aren’t expected to arrive until next year.

The GLC coupe range is available to order now, with deliveries slated to start in November.

GLC 220 d Coupe - $77,100
GLC 250 Coupe - $80,100
GLC 250 d Coupe - $82,100

Pricing includes LCT, but excludes on-road costs - overseas model shown.
