Mercedes-Benz has announced local details for its blistering GLC 63 range in Australia ahead of the performance SUV’s arrival before the end of the year.

Like the Mercedes-AMG C 63, the GLC 63 range will bypass the ‘base model’ available overseas and arrive in GLC 63 S 4Matic+ specification, resulting in a 375kW/700Nm output from the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and standard all wheel drive.

That powertrain package is unique in the medium SUV class, making the GLC the only V8-powered car among its peers, and the quickest medium SUV with a 0-100km/h time of just 3.8 seconds - faster than the any of the other variants in the C 63 range.

The 63 treatment will be applied to both the SUV, priced from $164,900 (plus on-road costs), and GLC coupe at $171,900 (plus on-road costs) making the new AMG 63 models cheaper than the C 63 convertible but more expensive than the rest of the C 63 range.

Australian-bound GLC 63’s will land with standard AMG-tuned air suspension, and a multi-mode drive function that switches through Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Race modes with an individual setting to allow drivers to tailor settings for the throttle response, adaptive suspension, steering assistance, and active exhaust system.

The GLC 63 models will follow the specification-lead set by other AMG 63 models including standard leather trim with AMG-specific sports seats, instruments and steering wheel and an eight-inch colour multimedia screen with satellite navigation, digital radio, Bluetooth and Apple Carplay.

Both variants can be further optioned with a Carbon Exterior Pack that adds lightweight mirror scalps and either a lip spoiler on the GLC Coupe or an extension to the rear wing on the GLC SUV for $4500 or AMG's carbon composite brake package, which consists of 402mm front discs with six-piston callipers and 360mm conventional steel discs on the back, for $7500.

An Edition 1 enhancement package has also been created to help celebrate the GLC 63’s launch with Selenite Magno paint from the Designo personalisation range, 21-inch alloy wheels, carbon brakes, Nappa leather seats, matte carbon interior trim, and yellow exterior and interior highlights adding $10,900 the price.
