Mercedes-Benz has released the first images and details of its all-new Mercedes-AMG E 63 Estate, the load-carrying companion to the previously unveiled E 63 sedan.

The E 63 Estate (Mercedes-speak for wagon) will make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, sharing its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and all wheel drive system with the sedan version.

Buyers will have a choice of either the 420kW/750Nm E 63, or for those seeking an even bigger thrill the E 63 S will punch out 450kW/850Nm from a high-output version of the same engine.

Gear changes are delivered via a nine-speed automatic gearbox with Mercedes-Benz claiming blistering 0-100km/h acceleration of just 3.5 seconds for the E 63 S or a fractionally slower 3.6 seconds for the E 63.

While Mercedes made a big deal about the E 63 sedan's Drift mode when it was revealed, there is no mention of it in the more practical Estate version despite using an identical mechanical set-up a similar multi-mode drive set-up that switches through from Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual and Race settings. However, it does mention the all-wheel drive operates in a "continuously variable way from traction-oriented all-wheel drive to purely rear-wheel drive."

The Estate’s biggest advantage compared with the sedan is obviously the additional cargo area at the back, which Mercedes claims is the largest in its class with 640L in standard form and up to 1820L with the rear seats folded flat.

Sadly, the sales slide away from traditional wagons means that Mercedes-Benz won’t be bringing the E 63 Estate to Australia, although the sedan is scheduled to arrive mid-year. In its place Mercedes will offer AMG versions of its smaller GLC and larger GLE SUV ranges.
