Mercedes-Benz has announced price and specification details for its performace-hero Mercedes-AMG E 63 sedan range which will arrive in two variants in Australia.

Starting in June this year the flagship E 63 S will arrive packing a 450kW and 850Nm punch from its twin-turbo 4.0 litre V8. From December it will be joined by the ‘regular’ E 63 with 420kW and 750Nm on tap.

Both versions are equipped with AMG's nine-speed automatic gearbox, and power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes-Benz's 4Matic+ system which shares out the torque between the front and rear axle for maximum traction.

Speed is limited to 250km/h in the E 63 and 300km/h in the E 63 S, and each is capable of hitting 0-100 km/h in 3.5- and 3.4-seconds respectively.

The car can be driven in a number of modes, including a new 'drift mode' that pushes power to the rear wheels only.

Pricing starts at $209,900 before on-road costs for the standard Mercedes-AMG E 63 and $239,900 for the E 63 S, with both models undercutting the outgoing single-specification E 63 S which was priced from $250,540.

Besides the E-Class' extensive list of standard safety and ground-breaking technology, the E 63 also gets its own body panels and its engine is hand-built at Affalterbach.

The E 63 also scores 20-inch five spoke AMG alloy wheels, a mechanical limited slip rear differential, an analogue clock and chrome touches. while the E 63 S upgrades to 20-inch matte black cross-spoked AMG alloy wheels, AMG’s Night Package black-out styling, a selectable exhaust system, Nappa leather steering wheel, red brake calipers, Nappa leather touches throughout the interior, and wireless charging.

The E 63 S, when it arrives in June, will also be able to be optioned up with the Edition 1 package consisting of unique paintwork, ceramic composite brakes, AMG side sport decals in matte graphite, black Nappa leather seats with contrast yellow stitching, plus carbon fibre and yellow touches throughout the cabin.

The Edition 1 package adds a further $18,900 to the price of the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S.
