The first uncovered exterior spy image of the new 2017 Kia Picanto has debuted online thanks to Korean motoring site MotorGraph.
Despite having only been launched in Australia in April 2016, the current Picanto is on borrowed time, fast approaching the end of its model cycle having originally made its overseas debut in 2011.
Kia Australia introduced the Picanto as something of a toe-in-the-water exercise to see how the micro hatch, with a single specification and sharp driveaway pricing, would be recieved in the local market before committing to the launch of this all-new model.
An official reveal is expected to take place at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, but even before then the Picanto may be launched in the Korean market where it wears Kia Morning badges.
Beneath the surface the Picanto will be based upon the mechanical set used by the Hyundai i10 with a range of engines including a carry-over 1.2 litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, as well as Kia’s new 1.0 litre three-cylinder turbo.
Inside, the Picanto will also be overhauled, which depending on the specification could include new touchscreen infotainment systems, and upgraded interior materials to lift the tone of the already well-trimmed current model.
As the Picanto moves closer to production expect more info about the tiny five-door to emerge in the coming months, with Kia sure to introduce its own teaser campaign in the lead-up to the Geneva Motor Show.
