Jaguar has given a disguised first look at the car set to become the most powerful road car in the British automaker’s history, the XE SV Project 8.
Built by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), the Project 8 will feature a 441kW version of Jaguar’s supercharged 5.0-litre V8, giving it more than enough horsepower to out-grunt the 331kW BMW M3 and 375kW Mercedes-AMG C 63 S.
Details of other mechanical changes are yet to be disclosed, but Jaguar’s official 'spy shots' reveal wider bodywork with bulging rear wheel arches, a vented bonnet, new front and rear bumpers, and a huge adjustable rear wing on the bootlid.
To go with the increased engine outputs the XE SV Project 8 is also expected to arrive with specially-tuned suspension, lighter and larger wheels with sticky tyres, and a revised eight-speed automatic for charper gear changes, coupled to an all-wheel drive system.
The combined effect of the modifications should see it accelerate from 0-100km/h in under four seconds, potentially making it one of the fastest four-door sedans on the planet.
The Project 8 will be built as a strictly limited collector's model with only 300 examples to be produced globally as the second special-build project from Jaguar’s SVO division, after the F-Type Project 7 of last year.
Despite the limited production run, the Project 8 will likely point to a full-production model XE SVR set to join the range from 2018.
"The time is right for SVO to produce the most extreme performance road car in the history of Jaguar," said SVO boss, John Edwards.
"The SVO team is possessed by the spirit of performance and committed to creating the most thrilling driving experience imaginable. Our clients worldwide were thrilled by the F-TYPE Project 7. The new XE SV Project 8 takes aerodynamics and performance engineering to another level - it is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that."
Jaguar will reveal full details, along with a clearer look at the Project 8’s styling, at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed at the end of June.
