As the first 2017 Holden Astra rolls off the production line in Europe, Holden has announced local pricing for the new model ahead of its arrival in Australia.

A three-tier model range is heading our way, all with turbocharged petrol engines and all available with manual or automatic transmissions.

Holden has launched an online pre-order campaign for the Astra, with special introductory pricing starting at $21,990 plus on-road costs.

That amount will secure you the entry-level Astra R with six-speed manual transmission, with power sent to the front wheels from a 1.4 litre turbocharged ECOTEC four-cylinder engine producing 110kW and 240Nm. Fuel consumption measures 5.8 l/100km.

Features include 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear-view camera with rear park assist, a seven-inch colour touchscreen with Apply CarPlay, Android Auto and a digital radio.

Stepping up to the Astra RS sees the starting price rise to $26,490 plus on-roads, and the engine capacity rise to 1.6 litres. Power and torque are rated at 147kW and 300Nm respectively,

Above the Astra R, the RS scores keyless entry with push-button start, blind spot monitoring, park assist, forward-collision alert with autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist.

Topping the range is the Astra RS-V, which is also powered by the same 1.6 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 147kW/300Nm.

Pricing for the RS-V starts from $30,990. Above the RS, the RS-V adds 18-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, heated steering wheel, leather and heated front seats, larger eight-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation and dual-zone climate control.

New active Matrix LED headlamps are optional on the RS-V.

Regardless of the model, opting for the six-speed automatic in place of the manual adds $2200.

“It’s incredibly exciting to see the first all-new Holden Astra built and ready to ship - it’s a stunning car, packed with state-of-the-art technology, and another great example of the exciting future vehicles we will be introducing over the next couple of years,” Holden Executive Director of Sales, Peter Keley, said.

“Holden has committed to replacing or refreshing every single model in our line-up as part of our plan to launch 24 new models by the end of 2020.”

Holden’s Director of Vehicle Performance, Ian Butler, said the all-new Astra has received a suspension tune from Holden’s local engineers to ensure its suitability for local road conditions.

The 2017 Holden Astra goes on sale from December, but customers can express their interest now via Holden’s website or their local Holden dealer. Models with the 1.6 litre engine and automatic transmission arrive in March.
