The second generation Audi Q5 has arrived in Australia with the first batch of vehicles in the country reserved for customer test drives ahead of a full launch in June.
Audi has also revealed the specifications and pricing for the overhauled Q5 range, which arrives in two variants in Australia: Q5 Design and Q5 Sport.
Two engines are also on offer with a 140kW/400Nm 2.0 TDI four-cylinder turbo diesel available in the Q5 Design or a choice of either the 2.0 TDI or a 185kW/370Nm 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder turbo petrol engine in the Q5 Sport.
Changes to the new Q5 have meant a 90kg weight loss compared with the previous generation, with further fuel-savings on the 2.0 TDI gained via the quattro plus all wheel drive system, which operates as an on-demand system in the Q5’s Auto drive mode, sends power rearwards earlier in Sport mode, or can lock in all-wheel drive in Off Road mode.
Fuel consumption is rated at 5.3L/100km for the diesel or 7.3L/100km for the petrol - with the 2.0 TFSI petrol also capable of dashing from 0-100 km/h in as little as 6.3 seconds. Both engines mate to a seven-speed S-tronic (dual clutch) automatic and all-wheel drive.
Standard features for the Q5 design include Xenon headlights with LED running lights and tail lights, three-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, leather seats, 40:20:40 folding rear seat, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a 7.0-inch multimedia system including Audi’s MMI rotary controller, satellite navigation, Bluetooth, eight-speakers and a 4G LTE connection allowing access to Google Earth and Google Search, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The Q5 Sport adds sport front seats, adaptive LED headlights and dynamic LED rear indicators, a 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, 8.3-inch infotainment screen, 10-speaker premium audio, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Standard safety features incorporate Audi pre-sense with autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian detection (up to 85 km/h), parking system plus with rear view camera, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic assist, Audi pre-sense basic (to close windows and tighten seatbelts when an emergency is detected) and Audi pre-sense rear which attempts to warn following vehicles if they are likely to run into the rear of the vehicle.
The Q5 Sport goes further with adaptive cruise control including Stop & Go, high-beam assist, turn assist, and Audi pre-sense front collision warning up to 250 km/h.
Q5 design 2.0 TDI quattro - $65,900
Q5 sport 2.0 TDI quattro - $70,700
