A sleek companion to the new Passat sedan appears likely, but with current CC debuting three years after its conventional sibling, it could be a couple of years before we see the next model.
The absence of official news won’t slow speculation, of course, and independent designer Theophilus Chin has been hard at work imagining just how a next-generation Passat CC could look.
Shown here with front and rear views on display, Chin’s ‘guesstimate’ of the next CC takes its cues from Skoda’s VisionC concept - itself inspired by VW Group stablemates like the current CC and the premium Audi A7 Sportback.
Like the current model, Chin’s CC rendering shares only minor styling features with the regular sedan, including the large new grid-like grille design.
The headlights of this imagined CC are both sharper and more heavily angled than the new Passat sedan.
Likewise, the profile takes on an even more coupe-like design with a tightly wrapped and high-set character line, moving the CC’s look closer to the Audi A7 Sportback.
The look is rounded out by a short rear deck with a sharp integrated spoiler that kicks back into the tall, angled read and a faux diffuser design.
We can easily imagine this look slotting into the Passat range, but will it happen?
For its part, Volkswagen isn’t saying, although recent reports suggest that at least one executive, VW of America boss Michael Horn, has confirmed plans.
But for now, we’ll just have to keep an eye out for racey prototypes in heavy camouflage…
