Tesla has announced a raft of upgrades for its Model S all-electric sedan range today, revealing a new "Ludicrous Mode" that can launch the Model S P85D to 100km/h in a supercar-crushing 3.0 seconds as well as a more affordable entry-level model.

Prices for Australian-delivered cars remain largely static, but the introduction of the new single-motor Model S 70 means new buyers will only need $100,100 (before on-roads) to step into a Model S.

The Model S 85 gets a $700 haircut and now costs $114,200, but the 70D, 85D and P85D remain at $106,900, $121,000 and $148,000 respectively.
