Transmission options include both five- and six-speed manuals, along with five- and six-speed automatics, while fuel consumption with the aid of stop-start technology is rated between 4.4 and 4.9 l/100km.
Diesel options include a trio of 1.6 litre turbocharged units with power outputs measuring 56, 75 and 89kW, matched with five- or six-speed manuals, with the 75kW version also offering a six-speed automatic.
Fuel consumption for the diesels dips as low as 3.5 l/100km, rising to 3.7 l/100km in the thirstier variants.
All models, petrol and diesel, are exclusively front-wheel-drive, but a selectable driving mode feature offers Standard, Snow, All-Terrain, Sand and ESP Off modes.
Externally, the 2008 scores a new grille, updated bonnet, plastic wheel-arch cladding and revised tail-lamps, while Ultimate Red (as seen on the 308 GTI) and Emerald Crystal join the list of paint finishes.
Inside, the big news is an updated infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen supporting Apply CarPlay and MirrorLink, along with a reversing camera. Park-assist is also available.

Buyers looking for a sportier 2008 may consider a new variant called the GT Line, which adds a black and red trimmed interior, 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels, other gloss black exterior highlights and GT Line badging.
The 2016 Peugeot 2008 is heading to Australia in Q4 of this year, with pricing, features and local specifications still to be confirmed. Peugeot Australia is considering the introduction of the GT Line variant.
