Nissan has offered fans a first look at its next-generation Maxima sedan in a stirring commercial aired during today’s NFL Superbowl game.
Revealed in the last seconds of the one-minute-thirty video, the new Maxima appears as a father waits to surprise his son after school.
The ad represents Nissan’s return to the Superbowl advertising circus after an 18-year hiatus, but for buyers, the new Maxima reveals another step towards a sharper and more adventurous design language for the Japanese brand.
Former Nissan executive Andy Palmer promised fans at the time that the concept’s production future was “a sure thing”.
"We will build this car and it won't be that different from the concept car,” Palmer said last year.

Speaking with TMR today, Nissan Australia’s Peter Fadayev could confirm only that there are no current plans to bring the new Maxima to Australia.
Australia’s last version of the Maxima, which was replaced by the Altima in 2013, was based on the Japanese-market Teana sedan, while the North American Maxima has been an entirely different design for the past three generations.
Fans of Nissan’s edgy new styling language can expect to see the new Murano here later this year.
