Mazda appears to be wasting no time with its ‘new 2’, as new reports suggest the Mazda2 hatch’s sedan companion will debut later this month in Thailand.

According to newspaper The Bangkok Post, the carmaker’s Thai arm has confirmed the new four-door model will debut at the Thailand Auto Expo.

Previewed above and below in speculative renderings by independent artist Theo Chin, the new sedan’s debut will follow the July unveiling of the new hatch that hit Australian showrooms last week.

Interestingly, the new model’s debut will make Mazda the first carmaker to build and sell a diesel-engined model in Thailand, thanks to a government ‘eco car’ programme that offers incentives for diesel engines up to 1.5 litres in capacity.

Although not offered with the Australian range, the new Mazda2 is offered in overseas markets with a 1.5 litre diesel engine.
