The all-new Mazda2 light hatch is now out in the open, making its online debut this month ahead of a late 2014 Australian launch.
But what of a new-generation sedan? Mazda is expected to reveal its four-door plans over the coming year, and this latest rendering might be our first clue at what to expect.
Plucked from the imagination of independent ‘photochopper’ Theophilus Chin, this (unofficial) trio of renderings draws on both the new Mazda2 and the larger Mazda3 to build a convincing concept for the new sedan.
But, while we’ll likely see the real deal appear sometime in 2015, an Australian debut may not be on the cards.
In its previous incarnation, back in 2010, Australia’s Thai-sourced Mazda2 sedan managed to grab little more than 10 percent of total sales for the range.
Mazda’s Australian arm has previously confirmed it will consider a local case for the new Mazda2 sedan when it does eventually surface, but its chances are not great.
As for the new hatch, we can expect a down-under debut later this year.
The hatch’s global line-up will include 1.5 and 1.3 litre petrol mills and the new 1.5 litre diesel unit, but Australia is likely to see only the 1.5 petrol option.
Two states of tune for that engine are expected, producing more power in the higher-spec models.
