A concept version of Mazda’s all-new MX-5 may have been revealed, with a purportedly official sketch surfacing in the press today.
Is the artwork authentic? For now, only the enthusiast site Carscoop has declared the artwork official, citing no source for the supposedly leaked image.
However, close inspection of small inconsistencies suggest this illustration may actually be the work of artist Josh Byrnes, a close associate of the website.
And, of course, there’s one other point to consider: the clock has only this afternoon, Australian time, struck midnight in America on April Fools’ Day.
Still, as a ‘guesstimate’ of what we can expect from the new MX-5 - which reports suggest could appear at this month’s New York Auto Show - Byrnes’ rendering holds plenty of promise.
For its part, the company has offered no official word on when we will see its new roadster, or how it will be styled.
For now, we’re calling this one a well-crafted forgery - and we won’t mind at all if we’re wrong.
