The next-generation Lexus RX will use more aluminium in its construction as part of parent company Toyota's plans to expand its use of the lightweight metal.
Lexus currently uses aluminium for the bonnets of the IS range and CT 200h, with the latter also getting an aluminium tailgate.
According to latest reports, the new RX will also get an alloy bonnet, tailgate and door skins to help it shed some weight.
Tipping the scales at 1950kg empty, the current RX 270 isn't exactly light on its feet. The AWD RX 350 fares even worse, with a kerb weight of 2085kg.
