Hyundai Australia has announced the arrival of the Veloster Street Turbo Special Edition, packing a sportier style inside and out plus $3000 worth of extra equipment over the Veloster SR+ that it’s based upon for just $1000 more.

Priced at $34,990 for the manual and $37,390 for the automatic, the Street Turbo Special Edition’s standout feature is the quartet of Rays Gram Lights 57XV wheels in semi-gloss black.

Other black-painted exterior elements include the hexagonal grille surround, side skirt extensions, mirror caps, rear spoiler, rear diffuser insert and front spoiler insert.

Only 200 Street Turbo Special Editions will be built, and all of them will be painted in “Dazzling Blue Mica” metallic paint.

Inside, the Turbo Sports Blue interior style package is fitted as standard and features leather-appointed seats, steering wheel and door trims, with blue contrast stitching throughout. Like the Veloster SR+, the Street Turbo Special Edition is equipped with heated and cooled front seats as standard.

There are more splashes of blue on the door grips, centre console and seatbelts too, plus a set of unique floormats. That’s in addition to the panoramic glass sunroof, sat-nav, 7-inch touchscreen display, climate control, xenon headlamps and keyless entry that are already standard features on the SR+.

Mechanically, the Street Turbo Special Edition is no different from the rest of the turbo Veloster range. Power comes from a 150kW/265Nm 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol inline four, with either a six-speed manual or 7-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission taking drive to the front wheels.

Its suspension tune is identical to that of the Veloster SR+, and features the same refinements and retuned hardware that was brought in as part of the Veloster Series 2 update last year.

“Like the Series II Turbo, the Special Edition has impressively sharp turn-in and more aggressive drive out of corners, giving it a ‘playful’ character which allows the rear to be more actively involved during high-speed cornering,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s General Manager of Product Engineering, Hee Loong Wong said.

The Veloster Street Turbo Special Edition is available now, with just 200 cars available in either manual or auto form.
