2016 Holden Volt Spied During Testing

Holden's next-generation Volt plug-in hybrid has been spotted undergoing testing in the USA, sporting bodywork that - if our X-ray specs are functioning correctly - is a lot more organic than the slab-sided sheetmetal of the current model.

There's also a set of LED daytime running lamps, but beyond the small blue plug dangling from the front air dam (which is likely part of a diagnostic system used by the Volt's development team), there are few clues about what lies beneath the new Volt's skin.

However we CAN see that the charging point remains on the left front quarter panel, the wheels and tyres appear to be the same size and the drag-reducing rubber front skirt remains.

Rumour has it though that the new Volt will be built on a new platform, and upgrades to battery technology could see the car's electric-only range extended to nearly 100km, rather than the current model's 60-87km practical range.

However, the Volt's main stumbling block in Australia has not been its technology, but rather its price.
